Hair loss in men in Laval

This is the page where we mostly tell you what we cannot do. It is written so that you do not pay for false hope.

A facial for men

Why hair falls

Hair does not grow continuously: it alternates a long growth phase with a short shedding phase. Losing some every day is entirely normal. What explains the rest comes down to three mechanisms.

◈ Follicles make finer and finer hair Nothing falls suddenly. The hairline moves back, the crown thins, and what grows is finer and shorter with each cycle. It is hereditary and hormonal, it is the most common mechanism in men, and it usually starts well before anyone notices.

Too many hairs shed at once
After an operation, a high fever, a deficiency or a stretch of intense stress, the loss becomes sudden and diffuse, two to three months after the trigger.
The scalp is the ground
A scalp that is congested, irritated or tight does not cause the loss. But it is the only part of the equation an esthetic institute can genuinely act on.

Can hair loss be treated?

It depends which kind, and how it started already tells you a great deal.

If your hair loss worries you, the first appointment to book is a medical one, not this. We will say so at the consultation rather than after a series of treatments, and we would rather say it on this page too.

What can be treated here

  • The state of the scalp

Residue, itching, tightness, hair that is greasy again within twenty-four hours. That is the skin your hair grows out of, and it can be deep-cleaned.

  • The habits around the loss

Disrupted sleep, unbalanced eating, a long stretch of stress. That gets supported, not cured, and the distinction matters.

What cannot be treated here

  • Diagnosing the cause

The institute diagnoses nothing and prescribes nothing. A physician, ideally a dermatologist, often identifies a simple and correctable cause with blood work.

  • Sudden or recent loss

Loss that started all at once, or that comes with patches, redness or significant itching, goes to a physician without delay.

  • Regrowth

No esthetician's treatment makes hair grow back, here or anywhere. Treatments exist, they are documented, they work for many men, and they are not found in an institute.

  • Established hereditary baldness

A follicle that has stopped producing does not restart from the surface. That mechanism does not reverse on its own, and managing it is medical.

Choosing the right approach

Everything depends first on knowing where the loss comes from, and that answer often belongs to a physician. The institute's consultation is free: we look at your scalp together, and we will tell you where to go if it is not to us.

Common questions

Everything people ask us before a first session, answered plainly.

Does a scalp treatment make hair grow back?

No, and be wary of anywhere that lets you believe otherwise. A scalp treatment acts on skin: it unblocks, it cleans, it hydrates. That is the ground the hair grows from, not the hair itself. It can make the scalp more comfortable and make the hair look in better condition, and that is already something. But if your follicles are making finer hair for hormonal reasons, no surface cleanse reverses that. The first useful step is still a medical appointment.

When should I see a physician rather than come here?

As early as possible, and it is the most important advice on this page. See one as soon as the loss is fast, leaves bare patches, comes with itching, redness or pain, or simply worries you. A physician can order blood work, make a diagnosis and prescribe treatments that exist and are documented. The factor that decides the result most in this subject is delay: what is still active can be defended, what has stopped producing does not come back. Waiting two years to see whether it settles is the most expensive decision available to you.

I am thirty-four and my hairline is moving back. Is it too late?

No, it is precisely the right moment, and it is also the moment most men wait instead of acting. A follicle still producing a hair, even a fine one, is a living follicle. A follicle that stopped years ago does not restart. So what is at stake at thirty-four is not recovering what has gone, it is keeping what is still there, and that is decided with a physician. The part the institute can take, the state of the scalp and the habits, comes alongside, never instead.

Does stress really make hair fall?

Yes, but not in the way people imagine. Intense, prolonged stress can push a large number of hairs into the shedding phase at once, and the result shows two to three months later, which makes the link hard to spot. That kind of loss is diffuse rather than localised, and it often corrects itself once the cause is gone. What stress does not do is cause hereditary baldness: it can speed it up, it does not create it.

Does PRP for hair work?

It is a medical procedure, not an esthetic treatment, and it is for the physician to discuss at a medical consultation. What we can say here: it uses growth factors from your own blood, it is done in a series, it requires its own consultation and its own file, and the physician bills his own fees. No esthetician at the institute touches it. To know whether it makes sense in your situation, the only valid answer is his.

Should I just shave my head?

That is not an esthetician's question, but it deserves an honest answer rather than silence. Shaving changes nothing about the mechanism, in either direction: it does not strengthen the hair and it does not accelerate anything. It is a decision about appearance, it is perfectly legitimate, and plenty of men are very happy with it. What stays true either way is that the scalp becomes visible and therefore deserves to be in good condition, and that sunscreen on it stops being optional.

What about anti-hair-loss shampoos?

They wash. Some contain actives that calm an irritated scalp, which is useful, and a few give temporary volume by swelling the fibre. None changes the hair cycle, because a product rinsed off after two minutes does not have time to do much. If you buy one, take it for what it is, a good shampoo, and keep your budget for the medical appointment.
