A man of about thirty-six with a buzz cut, bare shoulders

Sports massage for men in Laval

At thirty-five, training is no longer the limit. Recovery is. Manual work built around your sport rather than around today's sore spot.

TYPE OF CARE

Sports massage therapy. No medical procedure.

What is sports massage

Manual work aimed at performance and repair, done by Hamza, sports massage therapist.

What separates it from a relaxation massage is not force. It is the map the therapist is working from. He follows the muscular chain your discipline loads, instead of stopping at the spot that is waving at you.

And that chain is predictable. A runner arrives with hard calves, a hockey player with closed hips, a man who pushes weight with short pectorals pulling his shoulders forward. Repeated movement always leaves the same signature.

What changes at thirty-five, and it is the real subject of this page: the volume has not moved, the recovery has. The same sessions you did at twenty-five now leave marks on Tuesday. That is not a sign to stop, it is a sign to maintain.

Hamza adds two tools when the session calls for them: assisted muscle stretching, where he places and holds the position for you, and cupping therapy, which works tissue by pulling rather than pressing.

Is sports massage right for you?

The work follows what you ask of your muscles, not only what they are telling you.

It is for you if:

  • Monday arrives and Saturday is still in your legs

The volume has not gone up, the fatigue stacks anyway. That is the first sign recovery is no longer keeping pace.

  • One movement hits a wall

The shoulder on a press, the hip on a squat, the ankle on a run. Not really painful, just a stop that was not there before.

  • You picked a sport back up after years off

Thursday hockey or Sunday running take badly to a restart at thirty-eight. The body remembers the movement, not the load.

  • You have a date coming

A race, a tournament, a game. A session in the right window helps, a deep session the night before hurts. Say the date when you book.

Is your tension coming from your desk rather than your sport?

Massage therapy with Isabelle is better placed, and it comes with an insurance receipt.

Contraindications

AN ACUTE UNASSESSED INJURY

A fresh tear, a recent sprain, a swollen joint: a health professional goes first. Sports massage supports a return to activity, it diagnoses nothing.

A FEVER OR AN ACTIVE INFECTION

The session is rescheduled, no discussion.

A KNOWN CIRCULATORY CONDITION

Phlebitis, thrombosis, a clotting disorder: name it when you book. Cupping in particular does not suit everyone.

BROKEN SKIN ON THE AREA

A graze, a burn, a rash: the area is worked around. It does not stop the rest.

THE DAY BEFORE A COMPETITION

Not dangerous, simply counterproductive. Deep work leaves twenty-four to forty-eight hours of tenderness, at exactly the wrong moment.

A facial for men

A treatment adjusted to your practice

Two men do not get the same session, and three things explain why.

YOUR SPORT
That is what sets the map. A cyclist and a tennis player share almost no loaded area, except the back, and not in the same way.
WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR WEEK
The day after a hard session and a full rest day do not call for the same intensity. Say what you did yesterday and what is coming tomorrow.
WHAT YOU ARE AFTER
Recovering, gaining range and preparing for a date are three different goals, and they do not produce the same session. The third depends mostly on the calendar.

The session step by step

We want to do everything we can to bring you toward the best version of yourself. That is why every session follows the same steps.

  • A massage therapist and a man talking before the session

    1

    Your sport and your week

What you do, how often, what you did yesterday and what is waiting for you.

  • A man settled face down on the table, a towel smoothed over his lower back

    2

    Finding the ground

Hamza tests a few ranges and palpates the chains involved before choosing where to start.

  • A forearm working deep along a man's upper back

    3

    The deep work

The largest share of the time, on the areas your discipline loads first.

  • The therapist's hands resting still on a man's shoulder blades

    4

Stretching or cupping, if the session calls for it

Two tools that do not come out automatically, only when what he found asks for them.

  • A man sitting up on the table, talking after the massage

    5

What he found, and what to do with it

What was most loaded, what is missing in range, and what you can work on alone between appointments.

Why choose L'Institut Béa

  • A SPORTS THERAPIST, NOT A HARDER RELAXATION MASSAGE

Hamza works from your discipline. That is not the same thing as pressing harder.

  • TWO TOOLS BESIDES THE HANDS

Assisted stretching and cupping, when what he finds justifies them. Never by default.

  • WE TELL YOU WHEN IT IS THE WRONG DAY

The night before a competition, the answer is no, and the reason comes with it.

Common questions

Everything people ask us before a first session, answered plainly.

Do I have to be an athlete?

No, and it is the misunderstanding the name of the treatment keeps alive. What matters is not your level, it is the repetition of a movement. A man who runs three times a week, plays hockey on Thursdays or goes to the gym four times loads precise and predictable chains, and that is exactly what Hamza works on. A large share of his appointments are men between thirty-five and forty-five who train seriously without competing anywhere.

How is this different from regular massage therapy?

The intention and the map. Massage therapy starts where you hurt and works the tension. Sports massage starts from what you do and follows the chain, including where you feel nothing yet. In practice, if your shoulder catches, Isabelle works the shoulder and upper back, Hamza also goes looking at the pectoral and the lat, because those are what pull the shoulder forward on someone who pushes weight. The other difference is administrative: Isabelle provides an insurance receipt, which is not the case here.

When should I book relative to training?

Not the night before a date, that is the one firm rule. Deep work leaves twenty-four to forty-eight hours of tenderness, and you do not want to discover it at the start line. The good window is three to five days before, or in the days after a hard effort when the goal is recovery. For regular maintenance any day works, simply avoid scheduling your biggest session for that evening.

Does cupping leave marks?

Yes, purplish circles that stay visible from a few days to about a week and a half. They are not bruises in the usual sense: there is no impact, the suction draws blood toward the surface. They do not hurt to the touch afterward. If you have a wedding, a beach or photographs that week, say so: the session works perfectly well without them.

My calf has been tight for months. Massage or a doctor?

If it is stiffness that comes and goes with your running volume, manual work is well placed. If it is a precise pain, located at the same centimetre, that worsens with effort or wakes you up, a health professional goes first. Hamza will tell you himself if he finds something that does not behave like muscular tension. A massage that "did nothing" over three sessions is often a problem that was never muscular to begin with.

What exactly is assisted stretching?

It is you, lying down, while Hamza places the limb and holds the position for you, often asking you to push lightly against him before releasing. The point is simple: alone, you stop at the moment it gets uncomfortable, and you compensate without noticing. With someone holding the position, the range goes further without you cheating. It is particularly useful on hips, the most closed area in men who sit all day and train in the evening.

Is one session enough?

For unknotting after a hard effort, yes. For a range you lost two years ago, no, and nobody here will tell you otherwise. That kind of restriction set in slowly and comes back slowly, with work on your side between appointments. Hamza gives you what to do alone, and it is usually two or three movements, not a programme.
