These services cover three distinct things: colour, care of the nail and cuticles, and strengthening or length.
Gel polish brings colour and wear. A manicure works the nail and the cuticles, with or without colour. Builder gel is worked directly on your own nail, layer by layer, to strengthen it. Gel-X uses pre-formed tips bonded to the natural nail, for length.
These services address nails that break or peel, polish that will not last, wanting length, and hands you would like to show.
Removal is a service in its own right, not a five-minute formality.

Contraindications
A NAIL INFECTION OR FUNGUS
A lifted, yellowed or thickened nail is not covered over. Putting gel on top seals the problem in. We will point you toward a medical opinion.
AN OPEN CUTICLE OR BROKEN SKIN
A cut, a whitlow or irritation around the nail postpones the session on that finger.
A KNOWN ALLERGY TO RESINS
Some people react to gels and adhesives. If you have ever had a reaction in a salon, mention it when booking.

Does it hurt?
No, there is nothing sensitive in this service. Working the cuticles can pull slightly if they are dry, and some gels give a brief warm sensation under the lamp that lasts a few seconds and stops the moment your hand comes out. If a cuticle is irritated or you have a cut, say so when you arrive; that finger will be worked differently.
Does gel damage your nails?
Forced removal damages them, not the application. Gel that is pulled off takes layers of the natural nail with it, and that is what produces the soft, ridged nail people blame on gel. Removal done properly, with the right product and the time it needs, leaves none of that behind. That is also why removal is a service in its own right, with its own time slot.
How long does gel polish last?
Around three weeks, though it depends mostly on what you do with your hands. Manual work, cleaning without gloves or fast-growing nails all shorten it. Lifting generally starts at the base, and that is the signal to come and have it removed rather than force it. Gloves for cleaning and cuticle oil extend the wear more than anything else.
Do I need to book removal separately?
If you are leaving with a new set, removal is included in the service you book. If you only want your gel taken off with nothing put back on, book removal on its own, 30 minutes. It is the same work; it simply changes the time slot to block.
What is the difference between builder gel and Gel-X?
Builder gel is worked directly on your own nail, layer by layer, to strengthen it or give it a little length. Gel-X uses pre-formed tips bonded to the natural nail, which allows more length and a more even shape, and takes more time. The first strengthens, the second lengthens.
How often should I come back?
For gel polish, around three weeks, when the regrowth starts showing at the base. For Gel-X, a fill is generally done every three or four weeks. It is a separate service from a full set, shorter and cheaper. Nothing commits you to a rhythm.
Can I come on my lunch break?
Yes, for gel polish or a removal, which take thirty minutes and leave nothing to dry: your nails are dry as you leave, unlike regular polish. For a full manicure, builder gel or Gel-X, allow a wider window, up to two hours for a full Gel-X set.
