NATURE OF THE TREATMENT

An esthetician's treatment. No medical procedure.

What is vascular laser

Vascular laser is a treatment that uses targeted light to close off the small vessels that have become visible under the skin.

It works by aiming at the haemoglobin inside those vessels. The heat closes them, and your body then reabsorbs them naturally over a few weeks. The surrounding skin is not affected, because it is the colour of the blood that absorbs the energy.

This treatment is mainly used to improve diffuse redness, dilated vessels, cherry angiomas and the evenness of the complexion.

Over a few weeks, skin can look more even, less coloured and calmer.

Is vascular laser right for you?

Vascular laser can be worth considering if redness has settled on your face and no longer subsides, and you want to act on what is already visible.

It is for you if:

  • Cheeks and a nose that stay coloured at rest

The redness stays with no trigger in the moment; it is no longer a passing reaction.

  • Small red lines visible up close

Often around the sides of the nose, these are vessels that have become permanent.

  • Raised red dots that appeared over the years

Cherry angiomas, on the face as much as on the body.

  • A complexion thrown off by its red component

Take the red out, and the rest of the complexion looks more even.

Contraindications

ROSACEA IN A FLARE

Active papules or pustules call for a medical opinion before any laser passes over them. We point you to a doctor, and we pick things up once the skin has calmed.

TANNED SKIN

Recent exposure, even with no visible sunburn, means postponing the session. Surface melanin captures energy meant for the vessels.

PHOTOSENSITISING MEDICATION

Several common treatments make skin reactive to light without anyone thinking about it. Bring the list of what you take, including anything taken orally.

A treatment adjusted to your skin

The result depends on settings decided during the session, based on your skin.

THE TARGET
The device is set so its energy is absorbed by haemoglobin, not by melanin. That is what makes it possible to treat a vessel without acting on the colour of the skin around it.
THE WAVELENGTH
It determines how deep the energy reaches. A superficial vessel and a deeper one do not call for the same setting, and both often coexist on the same face.
THE PULSE DURATION
The finer the vessel, the shorter the pulse must be. It is the setting that calls for the most judgement, because a pulse that runs too long heats the surrounding tissue.
THE COOLING
The surface is cooled during the pulse. That is what makes the session bearable and what protects the epidermis.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us before a first session, answered plainly.

Does it hurt?

The sensation is brief: a hot pinch at each pulse, often described as an elastic band snapped against the skin. The device's cooling follows immediately, which changes the feeling a great deal. Areas where the skin is thin and close to bone, the sides of the nose in particular, are felt more than the cheeks. Nothing obliges you to put up with it: you can ask for a pause at any point, and the pace adapts.

How many sessions should I plan for?

It depends on how widespread the redness is, how deep the vessels sit, and how your skin responds to the first session. An isolated vessel can be settled in one go. Diffuse redness established across both cheeks generally calls for a series, spaced several weeks apart to give the body time to reabsorb what has been treated. We give you a realistic number at the first appointment, and it is adjusted afterwards.

Does laser cure rosacea?

No, and nobody should tell you otherwise. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition managed medically. What the laser does is close vessels that are already dilated, which removes part of what shows. The underlying tendency stays the same: your skin will keep reacting to whatever triggers it in you. That is why we talk about softening and upkeep, never about disappearance. If your rosacea is active, with papules or pustules, a doctor must see it before any laser passes over it.

Why do the vessels darken before they go?

Because a closed vessel stays under the skin while the body reabsorbs it. For a few days it can therefore look darker than before the session, which is worrying when nobody warned you. It is a sign the treatment worked, not the opposite. The fading then happens gradually, over one to three weeks depending on how deep the vessel was.

What is the difference with a soothing facial?

A soothing facial works on inflammation and on the comfort of the skin, without acting on the vessels themselves. Vascular laser delivers targeted energy that closes one specific vessel. One calms the ground, the other removes what is already established. On skin that flushes easily the two are often combined, with spacing, and the skin analysis determines which one comes first.

Will the redness come back?

A closed vessel does not reopen. But your skin keeps the tendency that made it dilate, and new vessels can appear over time. That is why upkeep is part of the plan from the start. What genuinely extends the result is daily: sun protection, and knowing your own triggers, which vary enough from one person to the next to be worth observing.

Can it be done in summer?

It is possible, but it is the worst time to start. Tanned skin holds more melanin at the surface, which increases the risk of the energy being absorbed in the wrong place. So we postpone a session when the skin has caught sun, even with no visible sunburn, and even when the person did not notice. Most people start their series in autumn for that reason.
