Dark circles in Laval

A tired-looking gaze even after a good night, a shadow that will not lift. From drainage to filler, several approaches can help.

Why dark circles appear

A dark circle can come from the skin, from the vessels underneath, from puffiness or from the shape of the eye area, and most often from more than one at once. Three things explain why this one area shows what the rest of the face hides.

The skin here is the thinnest on the body
A vessel, a hollow or a deposit of pigment becomes visible here where it would go unnoticed anywhere else on the face.
The area puffs up easily
Eyelid tissue is thin and loosely held, so a small amount of fluid shows quickly, and sleep or an irritation can change how it looks.
The contour changes over the years
The hollow between the lower lid and the cheek deepens, and the shadow it casts reads as a dark circle, sometimes without a trace of added colour.

Can dark circles be treated?

It depends which kind, and four things you can look at in a mirror will already point you somewhere.

They are clues, not a diagnosis. Many people have two at once, most often a hollow and a bluish tint, which is exactly why we look at the area together before proposing anything.

What can be treated

  • The pigmented one, brown

Gently stretch the skin under your eye: brown that stays visible suggests a pigmentary component. It is worked over a series, with formulas chosen for this thin area.

  • The vascular one, bluish

A blue, pink or purplish tint often means vessels showing through skin that is very translucent. Improving the quality of the skin can soften that look, without being the answer to every bluish under-eye.

  • Puffiness that comes and goes

Compare on waking and at the end of the day: swelling that clearly goes down usually has a fluid component. Manual drainage can then de-puff the area, temporarily.

  • The structural one, a shadow

Light your face from below with your phone: a mark that changes a lot with the light is probably a shadow. That is a physician's call, and it is for him to judge whether it comes from a hollow that filler can soften.

What we do not treat here

  • Puffiness that never changes

A bulge that looks the same morning and night fits poorly with simple passing swelling, and more often comes down to eyelid anatomy or a fat pad. It needs assessing, and when it really is a fat pad, surgery is the most direct route. We do not perform it.

  • Swelling that is out of the ordinary

Swelling that is new, marked, on one side only, or comes with a red, painful or intensely itchy eyelid or with a change in your vision, is not a cosmetic question. Have a doctor look at it before booking anything here.

  • Complete disappearance

The area will stay naturally thin and the bone structure does not change. What is realistic is a clear improvement, and nobody can honestly promise more.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us before a first session, answered plainly.

Is lack of sleep really the cause?

It makes them look worse, but it rarely creates them, and that distinction explains a lot of frustration. A short night can leave the eye area puffier and the shadow more visible, without being what created the dark circle. Brown pigment, a hollow or a family trait stays visible even after several good nights. If a full week of proper sleep has never changed anything for you, that is a clue, not an answer. Some people also notice more puffiness after a drink or when sleeping completely flat. Raising the head a little sometimes helps, and it costs nothing to try.

Do eye creams do anything?

Yes, mostly when pigmentation or skin quality is part of what you are seeing. Some brightening actives are used on pigmented dark circles, and a good moisturiser improves the texture and the look of the area. What a cream does not do is fill a hollow or correct a real fat pad. Deeper pigment is generally hard to improve with a product on its own. That is why so many people accumulate products without seeing anything change. The product was not bad, it simply did not address what they have. Identifying your kind before buying saves far more than any discount.

Can it be fixed without injections?

Often, yes, and it depends on what creates the dark circle. Pigmentation is worked at the surface, so is skin quality, and swelling that comes and goes responds to a de-puffing approach. The structural hollow is the kind where a volume procedure becomes most directly relevant, because no surface technique restores missing volume. If that is your case and you do not want injections, we will say so plainly rather than selling you a plan that will not get there. There are partial workarounds, such as working on the quality of the skin around the hollow. They are presented for what they are.

How long before the eye area changes?

It depends entirely on what is being treated, and that is what surprises people most. An effect on swelling or on volume can show quickly, sometimes from the session itself. Work on pigment or on skin quality is judged over several weeks or months instead. In this area a treatment that is too aggressive can cause inflammation and, on skin that pigments easily, deepen the colour rather than soften it. Sessions are therefore spaced out on purpose. That is also why the plan is agreed before starting rather than halfway through.

Can hereditary dark circles be treated?

Yes, with a caveat on the word treated. A dark circle present since adolescence and shared with a parent can be pigmented, vascular, structural or mixed: genetics shapes skin colour, skin thickness and the anatomy of the area alike. That is precisely why no change in lifestyle has ever shifted it. Pigment can be worked on, so can skin quality, and a hollow can be compensated, which softens it. What cannot be done is make it disappear, since what produces it does not change. This is the kind where the goal has to be set most clearly before starting.

Does it need redoing every year?

It depends on the kind, and the question is better asked before starting than after. Sun protection helps hold the result of work on pigment, and the eye area is the spot people forget most. It does not guarantee that pigmentation will never come back. Drainage acts on something that rebuilds itself. Some people repeat it now and then when the puffiness returns, which is neither an obligation nor a fix for the cause. A physician's procedures follow their own rhythm, and he sets that with you.
