NATURE OF THE TREATMENT

An esthetician's treatment. No injection, no medical procedure.

What is scalp microneedling

Scalp microneedling is a treatment that uses fine microneedles to open tiny channels in the skin of the scalp.

Those channels let a plant-derived exosome serum, growth agents drawn from fruit extracts, travel much further than it would if simply applied to the surface. The serum works right next to the follicle, where the hair is rooted.

It is mostly used for a fragile fibre, a lack of volume and hair that is getting finer.

Session after session, your hair can gain strength, body and volume.

Is scalp microneedling right for you?

Scalp microneedling may be worth considering if you want to give your hair more body, and what you notice most is finer strands or less volume than before.

It is for you if:

  • Your hair is finer than it used to be

The treatment helps strengthen the fibre and can give it a thicker look.

  • Your ponytail feels thinner in your hand

Stronger hair looks fuller, even though the number of hairs stays the same.

  • Your parting shows more than it did

The work concentrates on that area, where thinning tends to show first.

  • Your hair snaps when you brush it

A strengthened fibre can stand up better to styling and to the heat of your tools.

Sudden shedding or patches with no hair at all?

Those call for a doctor first, as do itching or redness that will not settle. This treatment supports hair that is getting finer, it does not treat hair loss, and if that is your situation we will tell you before we start.

Contraindications

AN IRRITATED SCALP

A wound, an infection, or psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis in a flare-up on the scalp means the session is postponed. Microneedles would keep the irritation going instead of letting it calm down.

SKIN THAT HEALS POORLY

Isotretinoin, whether ongoing or recently stopped, slows down the skin's repair. A blood thinner, a bleeding disorder or raised scars (keloids) also call for an assessment. Let us know when you book, with the date you stopped if it applies.

AN ALLERGY TO A SERUM INGREDIENT

The serum contains, among other things, soy protein, watermelon and grapefruit extracts, ginkgo biloba and centella. A known allergy to any of them, or a reaction at a previous session, should be mentioned before we start.

PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING

The serum's manufacturer publishes no data on pregnancy or breastfeeding, and studies on exosomes for hair exclude pregnant women. To be safe, we recommend waiting until you have finished breastfeeding.

A treatment adjusted to your scalp

Three settings are decided on the spot, based on what your scalp shows that day.

THE NEEDLE DEPTH
It is adjusted area by area, according to how sensitive your scalp is and how the pass feels to you.
THE PRIORITY AREAS
Time goes where your hair is thinning most: the parting, the top of the head, the temples or the crown.
HOW THE SERUM IS SPREAD
It is laid down parting by parting on the area just worked, while the microchannels are open.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us before a first session, answered plainly.

Can you feel the microneedles on your scalp?

Yes, as a prickling rather than outright pain for most people. The feeling changes from one area to another: the temples and the hairline are often more sensitive than the top of the head. We do not apply numbing cream to the scalp. Comfort comes from the depth, which is set area by area: you can ask for a lighter pass or a pause at any time. A lighter session on a sensitive area does not spoil anything, what counts is coming back regularly, not how intense one session was.

How many sessions before you see a difference?

Not after one. Hair renews itself slowly, and a change in body or volume is judged over several months, not from one appointment to the next. We recommend a minimum of three sessions. The total depends on the state of your scalp, how fine your hair is to begin with and what you notice between appointments: it is set at the first appointment and adjusted along the way. Taking photos of your parting, always in the same light, is the most reliable way to follow the change.

Should I wait until my hair is very thin before starting?

No, quite the opposite. The treatment works on a fibre that is there: it helps strengthen hair you still have, it does not bring back hair that has been gone for a long time. The earlier you start, the more hair there is to strengthen. The right moment is when you notice a change yourself: a ponytail that feels slimmer, a parting that shows more in photos, hair that breaks more than it used to. There is no need to wait until other people see it.

Can I go back to work or to the gym after a session?

Work, yes. The scalp stays pink for a few hours, and your hair hides most of it. Where it is thinner, the redness can show the same day: booking the session at the end of the day solves that. For training, wait until the next day. Heat and sweat on a scalp whose skin has just been opened by the microneedles irritate it for no reason. The same goes for the sauna and a hot bath. The instructions you get at the end of the session give the timing for washing and colour.

What is the difference with PRP for hair?

Scalp microneedling does not use your blood. The plant-derived exosome serum comes from a vial, and the treatment is done by an esthetician, with no injection and no medical consultation. PRP for hair is a separate medical procedure, performed by a physician, with its own consultation, its own file and its own fees. The two do not answer the same situation.

Does it work for every hair type?

Yes. The treatment works on the skin of the scalp, not on the lengths: fine, thick, curly or coily hair is treated the same way, divided into partings to expose the skin. What needs some planning is a style that covers the scalp. Tight braids, extensions or glued-in pieces keep us from reaching the skin in places. Mention it when you book, and we will tell you whether they need to come out before the session or whether the reachable areas are enough.

Can it be combined with Keravive?

Yes, and the two complement each other well. Keravive clears what congests the scalp, product residue and sebum. Scalp microneedling carries a serum into the skin. A clear scalp is a better starting point. The order and spacing are decided with you, based on the state of your scalp and your schedule.
