Massage therapy in Laval
Sixty or ninety minutes where your only job is to lie down. Massage therapy works on tension in the back, neck and shoulders, particularly when it shows up after long stretches in the same position or an unfamiliar effort.

NATURE OF THE TREATMENT
Massage therapy. Insurance receipt provided. No medical procedure.
What is massage therapy
Massage therapy works manually on the muscles and soft tissue. It can help some people temporarily reduce a feeling of tension, stiffness or discomfort, and help them relax.
Pain can have several causes, though: massage is not there to diagnose them.
This treatment addresses muscle tension, stiffness that keeps coming back, stress and aches after an unfamiliar effort.
Isabelle is a massage therapist, a member of the Réseau des massothérapeutes du Québec under number M-2265, and she provides a massage therapy receipt after the session. What you get back depends on your contract and on your insurer's criteria.

Is massage therapy right for you?
This treatment works on muscle and on what surrounds it.
It is for you if:
You recognise a familiar tension
Stiffness that comes back after certain days or certain activities. The back, the neck, one shoulder. If the pain is new or severe, if it is getting worse or comes with numbness or weakness, have it assessed first.
You spend the day in the same position
Ten hours seated or standing, every day, and the body ends up settling into it.
Tension comes back after any unfamiliar effort
A move, a deep clean, a return to the gym. The body takes badly to what it is not used to doing. If the effort is regular and athletic, sports massage with Hamza is built for that.
You want to leave with a receipt
Isabelle provides a massage therapy receipt. Some lymphatic drainage sessions she carries out as part of that practice can qualify as well.
Not sure which length or which option to choose?
Write to us before booking, or say so when you arrive. How the session is built changes completely depending on what you are after that day.
Contraindications
WHEN SHOULD PAIN BE ASSESSED BEFORE A MASSAGE?
New or severe pain after an injury, a loss of strength, persistent numbness, pain travelling down a limb, a very swollen area, or pain that keeps getting worse should not simply be put down to muscle tension. In those situations, a medical or physiotherapy assessment may be more appropriate than booking a massage.
A LEG THAT SWELLS ON ONE SIDE
Sudden swelling, particularly on one side with pain, heat or redness, must not be massaged before a medical assessment. Massage is generally low risk, but rare serious complications have been reported, including clots, nerve injuries and fractures.
A KNOWN OR SUSPECTED CLOT OR THROMBOSIS
It rules massage out until a health professional confirms it can safely resume. Any other known vascular problem is worth saying before the appointment: the session may have to be adapted or need medical clearance.
A FEVER OR AN ACUTE INFECTION
We postpone the session at no charge, so that you can recover and so that we avoid passing an infection to the team or to other clients.
WHAT TO MENTION BEFORE WE START
Your medication, blood thinners in particular, any recent injury or surgery, significant osteoporosis, a fracture, a wound or skin infection, and any health condition that could change how you are touched or how much pressure is used. Depending on the situation, Isabelle adapts the session, avoids an area, or asks you for a medical opinion.
A HIGH-RISK PREGNANCY
Béa offers a massage adapted to pregnancies without complications. If your pregnancy is considered high risk, or if your health professional has given you restrictions, we ask for their agreement before the session.

A treatment adjusted to your body
No session is like the one before, and three things explain why.
- THE CONVERSATION AT THE START
- Isabelle asks what brings you in, where it pulls and what pressure you are after. A few minutes that determine the rest of the hour.
- ALTERNATING THE MOVEMENTS
- Deeper work is alternated with more enveloping movements, to keep the session comfortable between two more targeted areas.
- ADJUSTING AS SHE GOES
- The pressure is not decided once and for all at the start. It changes from one area to the next and according to what you say about it. You can have it changed at any point, and you should.
- THE FORMAT, 60 OR 90 MINUTES
- In an hour, the areas you flagged are worked. With 90 minutes, Isabelle can work several areas that are often tense together, the back, the hips, the neck and the shoulders for instance, rather than spending the whole session on one spot.

A MASSAGE THERAPY RECEIPT
A receipt is provided after the session. What you get back depends on your coverage and on the associations your insurer recognises.

PRESSURE THAT ADAPTS

Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask us before a first session, answered plainly.
How do I know what pressure to ask for?
Good pressure is where you feel the work without having to hold your breath. That marker works better than any one-to-ten scale, which does not mean the same thing from one person to the next. The moment you hold your breath, tense your shoulders or clench your jaw, the pressure is too strong: your body is resisting instead of letting go. At the other end, harder does not automatically mean more effective: the right level is the one that matches your goal while staying comfortable enough that you do not tense up the rest of your body. Say so at any point. Isabelle adjusts and remembers what suits you for next time.
What is the difference between a therapeutic massage and a relaxation massage?
It is our own naming, and that is worth saying. At Béa, "therapeutic massage" means a session aimed more squarely at one or more areas of discomfort. A relaxation massage favours an overall, restful experience instead. The pressure can be adapted in both cases, and a targeted massage does not need to hurt to be worth having. The two do not exclude each other; a good session alternates between them. What matters is saying which one you are after that day, because it changes how the hour is built.
Is it normal to ache the next day?
Mild tenderness can show up the day after a deep massage, and it usually clears quickly. It often surprises people who came in for relaxation. Drink normally, move gently if you feel like it, and shape the rest of your day around how you feel rather than treating training as forbidden. Aching is neither necessary nor a sign that a massage worked better, and plenty of people never get it. If you develop sharp, significant, unusual or lasting pain, contact us and have it assessed if needed rather than simply putting it down to the massage.
Can I have a massage during pregnancy?
Béa offers a massage adapted to pregnancies without complications, with positioning and movements specific to that period. Prenatal work is part of Isabelle's certification at École Setsuko. The difference is concrete: you do not lie on your stomach, you are generally positioned on your side with supports, some areas are avoided and the pressure stays more moderate. Mention your pregnancy when you book, so that the positioning and the pressure can be adapted. If your pregnancy is considered high risk, or if your health professional has given you restrictions, we ask for their agreement before the session.
Do I need to undress completely?
No, and you decide. You keep on whatever you are comfortable in, and the sheet covers the body throughout the session: only the area being worked is uncovered at a time, then covered again before moving to the next. Isabelle leaves the room while you settle in and knocks before coming back. If it is your first time and the idea is intimidating, say so. There is nothing unusual about it.
Are the receipts accepted by all insurers?
Isabelle provides a massage therapy receipt. What you get back then depends on your plan and on your insurer's criteria. Coverage varies a great deal from one contract to another: some reimburse a percentage, others a maximum annual amount, a few require a prescription, and several recognise only certain professional associations. Check your contract before your first appointment rather than after. Keep your receipt and check how your insurer wants claims submitted.
What is the difference with the other treatments at the institute?
The profession, and that is what determines the receipt. In Quebec, massage therapy is not governed by a professional order: what counts is belonging to an association your insurer recognises. Isabelle is a member of the Réseau des massothérapeutes du Québec under number M-2265, and she provides a massage therapy receipt. Some lymphatic drainage sessions she carries out as part of that practice can qualify as well. Esthetic treatments, done by estheticians, do not. On substance, massage therapy is aimed mainly at tension and muscular comfort. Wood therapy is a firm esthetic massage aimed at the look of dimpled skin, while lymphatic drainage uses a far lighter technique aimed at swelling and heaviness.
Isabelle or Hamza, which door?
For general tension, a working day or plain relaxation, Isabelle. If what you need is mostly tied to regular training or to competition, sports massage with Hamza is built for that. For swelling or heavy legs, it is lymphatic drainage. And if you are after relaxation with an energy-work angle, Isabelle also offers a massage and reiki option: reiki is offered as a wellness practice, distinct from the muscular work of a massage.
